Brain Food is a combination of ingredients that work together, synergistically to help support your dog’s brain and nervous system health.
Freeze Dried Brain
The freeze-dried brain in Brain Food comes from BSE-free New-Zealand calves. Brain is a healthy source of:
- DHA, the omega-3 fatty acid that fuels the brain and eyes
- Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), a protein linked directly to memory, brain cell health and stress response.
- Sphingomyelin and important proteins and peptides.
Lion’s Mane Mushroom
Lion’s Mane mushroom is called “the smart mushroom” because of its compounds that can help enhance brain function.
Studies show that Lion’s Mane mushroom can grow and protect brain cells: hericenones and erinacines.
In one study, Lion’s Mane mushroom decreased loss of memory in mice* and it prevented the amyloid plaques linked to Alzheimers disease.
*Mori et al Effects of Hericium erinaceus on amyloid β(25-35) peptide-induced learning and memory deficits in mice 2011
Wild Organic Blueberries
Blueberries are rich in anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant that has an affinity for the brain and nervous system.
Brain Food is freeze-dried and never processed in high-heat. This ensures the quality stays in tact and the heat sensitive ingredients like fats, vitamins, minerals and co-factors are not removed.
Every batch of Brain Food is third party tested.
New Zealand practices national surveillance for BSE and has never had a case of mad cow disease (BSE).

Organic Lion’s Mane Mushroom
Lion’s Mane has been referred to as “the smart mushroom”. This is because it has 2 unique compounds that are believed to help enhance brain function: hericenones and erinacines.
Where do you get the calf brain from?
Brain Food comes from grass-fed calves living in New Zealand. We do not source our bovine from Argentina. Argentina is known to be the world’s biggest user of glyphosate (Roundup).
Where do you make Brain Food?
Brain Food is made in the USA, along with all of the other Four Leaf Rover products.
If my dog has a sensitivity to beef, should I give him Brain Food if it’s made from beef calf brain?
It’s a good idea to check with your holistic vet. Calves brain is similar to beef, but it is not exactly the same.
Why do you freeze-dry the calf brain?
Calf brain is freeze-dried in order to maintain the heat-sensitive ingredients like vitamins and minerals.
Other brain products that heat process their brain kills off these essential vitamins and minerals that make the brain healthy in the first place.
Why does Brain Food have Lion’s Mane in it?
Lion’s Mane is known for its ability to boost the brain and nervous system. In 2004, Japanese Kawagishi et al published a study showing that Lion’s Mane helped mild dementia in patients by improving functionality.
