How does the Fresh Box process work?

1. Pre-Order Online: Reserve your fresh box ahead of time based on our scheduled pickup dates.

2. Pick Up: Collect your fresh, unfrozen raw food from our store on your selected Fresh Box pickup date.

3. Portion and Freeze at Home: Divide the fresh batch into your own freezer bags or containers based on your pet’s daily portions and place them straight into your freezer!

Why did you switch from plastic pails to boxed packaging? Boxes dramatically cut down on single-use plastic while making transport cleaner and easier. Plastic pails are bulky and difficult to open, whereas our heavy-duty boxed packaging keeps your fresh raw food secure for the ride home and breaks down easily for recycling.

Ordering and Pickup Schedule

When are Fresh Box pickup dates available? Fresh Box pickups are scheduled twice per month on pre-planned dates. You can check the upcoming scheduled dates directly on the individual Fresh Box product pages.

What is the ordering deadline for a Fresh Box? All Fresh Box orders are made-to-order and require a pre-order. You must place your order by 2:00 PM on the Wednesday prior to your selected pickup date. Late orders cannot be included in that run, so be sure to order early!

How should I transport my Fresh Box home? Because the food is fresh and unfrozen at pickup, we recommend bringing an insulated cool box or cooler bags with ice packs—especially during warmer weather—to keep the raw food chilled on your drive home.

Storage, Handling and Preparation

How soon after pickup do I need to portion and freeze my food? Because your Fresh Box contains fresh, unfrozen food, you should portion and freeze it on the same day as pickup. Keeping the food chilled during transport and packing it away promptly ensures maximum nutrient integrity and food safety.

What containers work best for home portioning? You can use whatever fits your freezer space and daily feeding routine! Popular choices include: • Reusable plastic or glass snap-lid meal prep containers • Reusable silicone storage bags • Standard freezer bags (stacked flat for maximum space efficiency) • Vacuum-seal bags for long-term storage

Tip: Portion out 1 to 2 days’ worth of meals per container so you only thaw what your pet will eat over a couple of days.

How do I safely thaw and serve the food? Move a frozen container from your freezer to the refrigerator 24 to 48 hours before mealtime. Never microwave raw pet food or thaw it on the counter at room temperature. Once thawed in the fridge, serve within 2 to 3 days. Always wash containers, bowls, and surfaces with hot, soapy water after handling raw food.

Packaging and Freezer Space

How much freezer space do I need? Since you portion the raw food into your own containers, you can pack your freezer as tightly and efficiently as your layout allows. Flat freezer bags or stackable square containers take up much less room than traditional round pails. Note: Always remember to put air space between packaging while it is freezing so the food can freeze quickly. Once frozen you can pack it in tightly.

What do I do with the box after unpacking? Once you have transferred the fresh food into your home containers, simply flatten the cardboard box and place it in your standard residential recycling bin.
